GAC Norway leads charity donation following initiative from Skipavika

In a commendable act of social responsibility and sustainability, GAC Norway has recently played a key role in ensuring that 450 mattresses and a corresponding number of mattress toppers will benefit charitable causes instead of ending up as waste.

The initiative began when the Prosafe owned and operated ‘Safe Boreas’ docked at Skipavika was scheduled to replace a large number of mattresses. The Skipavika terminal contacted GAC Norway to inquire if the mattresses could be of use to someone as an alternative to recycling.

Although Skipavika Terminal had an interested recipient for the mattresses, they reached out to us at GAC Norway. "We have a very strong collaboration with them and, knowing their extensive network, we were confident they could easily rise to the challenge," says Skipavika.

GAC Norway accepted the challenge and immediately initiated the process. "When we received the inquiry from Skipavika, we had no doubt that we wanted to contribute," says Terje Stenerud, who handled the initial request at GAC Norway. "It is always rewarding when we can use our network and expertise to support a good cause."

Anja Opdal at GAC Norway led the practical implementation and coordination of the delivery. Their efforts were crucial in organizing the logistics and ensuring the donation became a reality.

The solution involved a successful collaboration with Ørland Transport. By utilizing a return transport from the Mongstad area that would otherwise have been empty, a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution was found to transport the mattresses to Oslo, where they will be distributed to charitable organizations.

This initiative, from Skipavika's inquiry to Prosafe donation, to the successful delivery managed by the team at GAC Norway and Ørland Transport, highlights how strong collaboration within the logistics industry can create positive ripple effects far beyond daily operations.
